LAYERS!

Rule number one for a photoshoot in Iceland? Layers, layers, layers. The weather here likes to play tricks—it can be sunshine one minute, sideways rain the next, and then suddenly a rainbow shows up like nothing ever happened. If you’re layered up, you’ll be ready for whatever plot twist Iceland throws at us.

Think of it like this:

  • Base layer: your secret weapon (thermals or merino wool).
  • Middle layer: the cozy factor (wool or fleece).
  • Outer layer: your shield (windproof + waterproof).

And don’t underestimate shoes. Cute sneakers won’t survive the moss, black sand, or waterfall spray. Waterproof boots = happy feet = better smiles.

Now, style-wise, you’ve got options. Natural textures like wool and knitwear look gorgeous against Icelandic backdrops. If you’re into colour, go bold—reds, mustard yellows, and forest greens absolutely pop against all that dramatic scenery. Prefer something timeless? Soft neutrals like cream, beige, and grey give dreamy, cinematic vibes. If you are still not sure- message me and I will be happy to help you with your wardrobe.

Oh, and if you’re one of my clients who chooses to go full “goddess mode, ” here’s the fun part: you’ll get to slip into one of my flowy dresses right on location. Sometimes that means a quick outfit change in the car, behind a rock, or even outdoors with a little teamwork and laughter. It’s all part of the adventure—and trust me, it’s always worth it for those magical shots where you look like you’ve just stepped out of a fairytale.

The golden rule: wear what makes you feel comfortable and fabulous. When you’re warm, cozy, and a little bit “you, ” the photos always shine.

Comfort Elements- Back Stage

Iceland is breathtaking, but she doesn’t exactly roll out a red carpet for comfort. That’s why I like to make sure my clients are cozy, warm, and relaxed while we explore.

I always bring a few essentials to make the “backstage” as comfortable as possible: a soft blanket or shawl (sometimes even a thick robe), and a thermos of hot tea or hot chocolate—perfect for a little warm-up between shots. Hats, scarves, and gloves are lifesavers when the wind picks up, and hair ties or clips can save the day on those famously blustery Icelandic afternoons.

If we’re planning to hang around water, it’s also a good idea to bring flip-flops and a towel. Many of my clients love to go barefoot for certain shots, and this way you can dip your toes safely and dry off quickly.

All of these small touches mean you can focus on having fun, laughing, and enjoying the adventure—because the best photos always happen when you’re comfortable and relaxed. And yes, sometimes a dramatic blanket swirl or cozy sip of cocoa ends up in the photos, which makes them even more magical.

Planning for Icelandic weather

Iceland’s weather is famous for keeping us on our toes—and sometimes on our boots. One minute it’s sunshine, the next it’s drizzle, and then the wind might join in just for fun. The key? embrace it, plan for it, and have a sense of adventure.

Having lived and worked here for several years, I’ve learned to read the weather forecasts, anticipate shifts in light, and navigate even the wildest Icelandic conditions. Sometimes we get crazy weather with warnings—and knowing when to pause, move, or adapt is essential for a safe and successful photoshoot. That experience allows me to make the most of the light and the landscapes, so we always get beautiful results, rain or shine.

Being flexible with timing and locations is essential. Sometimes the perfect light or backdrop will require a short walk, a quick detour, or a little patience while the clouds move just right. And honestly, some of the most magical shots happen during those unexpected weather moments: a rainbow over a waterfall, mist curling around lava fields, or hair flying wildly in the wind.

The takeaway: plan a relaxed schedule, trust the process, and let the day unfold. That’s when the real adventure—and the best photos—happen.

Mindset for the day

The best photos don’t come from perfect poses—they come from being relaxed, playful, and fully in the moment. Iceland is dramatic, wild, and sometimes a little unpredictable, and your mindset can make all the difference in how much fun you have (and how magical your photos turn out).

Expect a bit of adventure: we might walk on moss, dodge a few raindrops, or laugh as the wind tries to steal a hat or hair tie. Embrace those moments—they often become the most memorable shots.

Let go of the pressure to be “perfect.” Bring your smiles, laughs, hugs, and your authentic self. Even quiet, simple moments can look stunning against Iceland’s landscapes.

If you’re nervous, that’s okay! I guide every step of the way, from posing tips to outfit changes. My goal is for you to feel comfortable, have fun, and enjoy the wild beauty around you—because that joy is what truly makes photos unforgettable.

The golden rule: relax, trust the adventure, and let yourself shine. Iceland will do the rest :)

Final Checklist
